Tekky Design's 2021 Video Releases

Every Year Tekky Design (formerly known as Tekky Toys) releases fan-anticipated product demos, large animatronic instructional set up films and troubleshooting tips. I lended my hand (quite literally) to the creative team for the 2021 video production season and worked on every part of the process under the art director. Videos edited in Final Cut Pro and video assets created in Adobe Photoshop.

The Challenge

The last time I worked on video production was in my high school computer class, so it was a challenge learning while doing the job. I am a visual learner and the art director either provided demos or diagrams of every task he wanted me to complete. Because of this, I was able to pick up the skills fast enough to be a useful asset. I've now worked in front of and behind the camera, rendered assets to be used in videos, done post-production editing and written closed captions.

Image Descriptions

First: Still of "Animated Ghost Reaper" taken from location film shoot at Orland Grove forest preserve. Stills were photographed to ensure proper item placement and conditions in the case of a reshoot or alternate takes. 4-5 items are filmed extensively during a demo shoot with different lighting, fog, and framing. The excess footage allows for multiple ideas to be generated for the demo film before being finalized.

Second: Graphics created for instructional set up films, showcasing the "Standing Michael Myers" prop. These graphics were created to show the consumer the correct placement of their item so that it doesn't get damaged or run improperly. Tekky toys has a specific identity to stick to, so all of the graphics utilize creepy assets with a campy Halloween aesthetic.

Third: Graphics created for instructional set up films, showcasing the "Ghost Witch" prop. I took photographs of all the parts for every item that required a set up film. Some photos are barely doctored, but items with a large number of parts or difficult coloring were altered heavily to display them in as clear of a way as possible. This item was the biggest challenge because I had to display white surfaces on a white background. I took heavily exposed photos, darkened the background, and rendered stark shadows to successfully display this item's parts.

Fourth: Whimsical ghost graphic assets created for demo film. Some of the demo films for smaller items are shot in front of a green screen in house. These films require backgrounds and illustrative assets to be created and inserted.

Fifth: Storyboard rendering for the "TT Mausoleum" demo film. For the smaller green screen items, storyboards are required to plan the filming and post-production editing. A film noir look was imagined by the art director, who provided a rough sketch. From there, I created storyboards, sourced commercial-use assets and also created some of my own assets for the film.
